Students and Organizations Honored at the VCU 2016 Leadership & Service Awards

VCU’s annual Leadership & Service Awards took place on April 7, 2016 at 6 p.m. in the Commonwealth Ballroom in the University Student Commons and highlighted some of VCU’s most accomplished students and organizations.

“The Leadership & ServicedVinao2qws2ca5LTN4F6QZli7IwETxF7D-hEEew2Pjx_VYxrJf1dVxZuKfgYD5D1QGVdPQ=s2048 Awards Ceremony is Virginia Commonwealth University’s opportunity to salute those students who represent the best in leadership and service at the university,” Michael Rao, President of Virginia Commonwealth University and VCU Health, said. “Each of these students has played a vital role in the life of VCU.”

Nominations and applications were turned in during the spring semester and finalists were chosen in late March. Students and organizations presented with awards were selected for their strong leadership and dedication to service in the VCU community and abroad.

2015-2016 Student Organization and Service Awards include:

  • Phi Alpha Kappa Transfer Society, Outstanding New Student Organization, was awarded $100
  • Emerging Healthcare Leaders, Most Improved Student Organization, was awarded $100
  • RamPantry, Outstanding Community Service, was awarded $100
  • Women in Science at VCU, Outstanding Community Service Project, was awarded $100
  • I RISE, Outstanding Local Community Service, was awarded $100
  • Active Minds at VCU, Student Organization Advocacy, was awarded $100
  • For the Children, Student Organization Diversity and Inclusion, was awarded $100

2015-2016 University Student and Organization Excellence Awards include:

  • Dr. Charles Patrick Cartin (American Society of Mechanical Engineers), Student Organization Advisor of the Year
  • RamPantry, Student Organization of the Year, was awarded $500
  • Karima Abutaleb, William H. Duvall Award for Student Activities & Involvement, was awarded $300

VCU holds the Leadership & Service Awards every year to recognize students for contributions to student organizations, community service and co-curricular excellence. This event is administered through the Division of Student Affairs and managed by staff in the department of University Student Commons and Activities. The awards presented by the various committees are considered the premiere awards at VCU for student leadership and service.
