Meet Josue Turrubiates, who went to Orlando, Florida for the first time this summer. He visited Disney World and Universal Studios during his trip. Find out which park was his favorite, what Disney princesses he was able to meet and when he hopes to go back in this edition of “Where in the World was VCU?”
Can you tell me your name, major and year?
My name is Josue Turrubiates. I’m a political science major going into my third year.
Where were you this summer?
I went to Orlando, Florida.
How long were you in Florida?
I was there for about a week, Sunday to Friday.
Was this your first time there?
Yes! My family had never really been on a “family vacation,” so it was our first time going there.
What were you there for?
We were there to celebrate my niece’s birthday. Her birthday was the month before, but we decided to take her to Disney World and celebrate it. It was fun because I never get to see my niece because my brother lives in Texas.
What was your favorite part about the trip?
Definitely going to Magic Kingdom. It was like I was a kid again. It was the most exciting thing ever. I have always had a dream of going to Disney World so actually being there was almost surreal!
Which was your favorite park?
Definitely Magic Kingdom again! It was so much fun and we got to do so many rides and just have that stereotypical Disney trip.
Did you get to meet any of the Disney characters?
Yes! I met Elsa, Anna, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Ariel and our Virginia girl, Pocahontas! I took pictures with most of them. I wish I would have gotten a signature book.
Did you like Universal Studios or Disney World better?
Ah, that’s so hard to choose because Universal Studios has Harry Potter World and Disney World is, well, Disney World! But I think if I had to choose one for the overall experience I would definitely say Disney World. It’s the one that is ingrained in every child’s mind as this super magical place and honestly it did feel magical. (Oh, that’s so cheesy of me!)
What did you think of Florida?
It was very humid! So nice though and the people that worked at the park were very nice.
Are you planning on going back any time soon?
As soon as I have the same kind of money to go back! But I definitely would love to go back one day. Who knows, maybe it will be in a couple of years, or maybe it will be even more when I have my own kids.
