In the ninth episode of Questions, Commons & Concerns (QCC), marketing assistants at University Student Commons and Activities asked students, faculty and staff about RamFest, VCU’s Homecoming concert.
Brian Donovan: Welcome to Questions, Commons & Concerns at VCU, an initiative by University Student Commons and Activities. Questions, Commons & Concerns is a series where we ask students, faculty and staff about their thoughts regarding current events, hot topics or fun subjects relevant to the University community.
Donovan: This is Brian Donovan, host of Questions, Commons & Concerns. In honor of its fifteenth anniversary, today’s episode features VCU Homecoming, which, in conjunction with Family Weekend and Fall Block, will be held during a 10-day celebration beginning on Friday, Nov. 3. Family Weekend is an opportunity for families to experience their student’s campus life, meet their friends, connect with other families and enjoy the VCU and Richmond communities. Fall Block is VCU’s annual step show, hosted by the National Pan-Hellenic Council at VCU. Homecoming is a campus-wide initiative that brings together current students, staff and faculty with alumni and community members to truly celebrate the VCU spirit.
Donovan: One of the many memorable annual events of the Homecoming lineup is RamFest, the Homecoming concert. RamFest features a headliner and several opening acts, which in previous years have included acts such as Drake, PartyNextDoor, Kendrick Lamar, MAGIC! and Chance the Rapper.
Donovan: Before the reveal of which artists would be performing at RamFest 2017, marketing assistants asked students, faculty and staff who they thought might be the headline act based on the clues that had been released thus far.
:: A$AP Rocky, A$AP Rocky, A$AP Rocky
:: dvsn. I don’t know – I don’t know how to say his name. Division.
:: Big Sean or Migos
:: I would think my bet would be either Playboi Carti and – or I’m gonna go outside of the box. I’ll say YG or Xavier Omar
Donovan: All great guesses, but at the 50 Days to Homecoming event held on Sept. 17 it was revealed that Tory Lanez would be headlining RamFest, alongside openers Shy Glizzy and 24hrs. After the reveal, we asked members of the VCU community about their previous RamFest experiences and their level of excitement and anticipation for this year’s RamFest lineup.
:: Last year was really good because I loved Masego. I had never heard of him up until last year so bringing him in, he was like my standout performance person. And Travis [Scott] was obviously good, but I think the whole show was good from beginning to end.
:: Yeah I did attend last year. It was super dope, had a wonderful time.
:: I am so excited for RamFest. I went last year and I honestly made so many friends at the Homecoming events. The Homecoming concert is probably going to be so fun, I just feel like this year it’s going to be really good.
Donovan: Rams sound excited as ever for RamFest and the events encompassing the 10-day celebration for VCU Homecoming’s fifteenth anniversary. For more information regarding Homecoming or RamFest, please visit homecoming.vcu.edu.
