Award Descriptions:

Leadership and Service Awards

Emerging Leader Award
This award is presented to students who have provided distinguished service in their first leadership roles at VCU and demonstrated potential for continued leadership.

Dr. Richard I. Wilson University Service Award
This award is presented to students who have distinguished themselves by demonstrating outstanding service and commitment to student organizations, university committees and the university community while maintaining academic excellence.

University Leadership Award
This award is presented to students in leadership roles in student organizations or university committees who have distinguished themselves by demonstrating outstanding leadership ability and commitment to their organizations.

Dr. Henry G. Rhone Excellence in Student Affairs Award
This award, sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs, is presented to a student who has provided distinguished service to the Division of Student Affairs and who has maintained a high level of academic success.

VCU Alumni Award
This award, sponsored by VCU Alumni, is presented to a Monroe Park Campus senior who has exhibited exemplary characteristics in the areas of scholastics, leadership, and service to VCU and the Richmond community.

William H. Duvall Award
This award is presented to students who have provided exemplary service, beyond normal expectations, in student activities, student groups and/or organizations and are in good academic standing.

Emerging Peer Leader Award
The Emerging Peer Leader Award is awarded to a first-time peer leader within the division of student affairs who has significantly contributed to their department and to the division.

Senior Peer Leader Award
The Senior Peer Leader Award is awarded to senior peer leaders within the division of student affairs who has significantly contributed to their department and to the division.

Peer Leader of the Year Award
The Peer Leader of the Year award is awarded to a peer leader within the division of student affairs who has gone above and beyond to develop and engage their peers and contributing to the success of their department and the division.

American Chemical Society Student Affiliates - STEAM Day - Outstanding Student Organization Program
Student Organization Awards

Outstanding New Student Organization
This award recognizes a new student group who has demonstrated significant success and development in following the mission and goals of their organization. Student organizations applying for this award must have start date after July 1, 2017. The winner of this award will receive $100 in their on-campus account.

Outstanding Student Organization Program
This award recognizes a student organization’s success for an individual program that enhanced the VCU community. The program described must have been completed between March 2, 2017 and March 1, 2018. The winner of this award will receive $100 in their on-campus account.

Most Improved Student Organization
This award recognizes a student organization that has demonstrated significant improvement in membership recruitment and retention, budget management, program planning and leadership while following the mission and goals of their organization. The winner of this award will receive $100 in their on-campus account.

Outstanding Community Service Award
This award recognizes a student organization’s overall community service efforts for an ongoing program or a series of programs. Service must have been completed between March 2, 2017 and March 1, 2018. The winner of this award will receive $100 in their on-campus account.

Outstanding Student Advocacy Award
This award recognizes a student organization for their contributions as an advocate for a specific social issue across campus or in the community. All contributions described must have been completed between March 2, 2017 and March 1, 2018. The winner of this award will receive $100 in their on-campus account.

Student Organization Diversity and Inclusion Award
This award recognizes a student organization’s commitment to  diversity, inclusion, and/or social justice through programming and initiatives. Programs and initiatives must have been completed between March 2, 2017 and March 1, 2018. The winner of this award will receive $100 in their on-campus account.

Outstanding Health Science Organization
This award recognizes a student organization with a health sciences focus that has significantly contributed to the VCU and Richmond Communities through programs, initiatives and/or community service. The winner of this award will receive $100 in their on-campus account.

Outstanding Graduate and Professional Student Organization
This award recognizes a graduate or professional student organization that has made a significant contribution to the VCU community through programming, special initiatives and/or community service between March 2, 2017 and March 1, 2018. The winner of this award will receive $100 in their on-campus account.

Advisor of the Year
This award recognizes an advisor that has shown dedication to their student organization over the past year. The successful advisor for this award should be an individual who has been committed to the organization and contributed to the organization’s success. This could be demonstrated through helping organization members carry out mission and goals; providing guidance, support and encouragement to members; being available to members and was approachable and open to new ideas; utilizing different and creative approaches to educating and assisting members; serving as a positive role model.

Outstanding Student Organization of the Year
Student organizations applying for this award should demonstrate success in organization development, leadership, service and membership engagement. The winner of this award will receive $500 in their on-campus account.
